New publishing agreement with PLOS

15 februari 2021

Uppsala University Library has reached a new publishing agreement with the OA publisher Public Library of Science (PLOS) that will enable our researchers to publish in all PLOS journals without incurring an article publishing cost (APC). This is a new agreement in two parts offered by PLOS, and Uppsala University is the first European university to get on board.

PLOS was established nearly 20 years ago, after a hugely successful open letter in the research community that called for open access in scholarly communication. Throughout its history, PLOS has been a trailblazer in the open science movement, pioneering not only open access publishing but also open data, open peer review and reproducibility. As a publisher, they stand out as a high quality, ethical and transparent alternative to the traditional publishers.
At Uppsala University, PLOS ONE was the most commonly used journal in Medicine for the period 2017-2019, while also being in the top three for the same period in Biology. Now, our researchers can continue to publish in PLOS without having to worry about individual publishing fees
