Wikipedia is at the core of knowledge transfer in contemporary society and one of the most efficient ways to communicate research to others. In order to keep Wikipedia relevant, as accurate and up to date as possible, it is important that researchers contribute in their field of expertise.
In a world ripe with alternative facts, it is our job to stand up for transparency and the scientific method. Wikipedia also provides a place for your research and for you as a researcher where literally everyone looks.
This seminar will give a hands-on look at how to work with and use Wikipedia. How you, as experts, can learn to navigate policies and collaborate with the editing community in order to contribute to the world's largest encyclopedia.
Sara Mörtsell is Education Manager at the non-profit Wikimedia Sweden. She is one of the international experts in the Wikipedia Education Program and supports several universities and organizations on how to successfully use free knowledge.
Olle Terenius is a malaria researcher working on gut bacteria in mosquitoes with his base at Uppsala University. In a world full of fake news and a president in the USA that sees Science as an opinion among others, he travels to Swedish universities encouraging researchers to participate in making Wikipedia an up-dated and true source of information for everyone.
